There is no single best month, it depends on what you want from the island. Here is how the three seasons actually feel, so you can time your trip around work, surf or budget.

Dry season, March to October

Flawless beach days and 28 to 33 °C. The easy choice for scooter trips, island hopping and long days by the water.

Surf season, August to November

The island's biggest waves, with September and October as the peak and international competitions in town.

Rainy season, November to February

Heavy downpours followed by clear spells, not constant rain. Cheaper stays, fewer tourists and plenty of quiet for deep focus.

September and October, when the swell peaks.

Best for focus and budget

The rainy season, quieter and cheaper.

Best for beach and trips

The dry season, from March to October.

Our take

For remote work and writing we lean toward the quieter shoulder and rainy months. It is calmer, cooler, less crowded and cheaper, and it suited getting words on the page. If you want to surf first, come in September or October.
